Save The Children, Nutrition and Food Security Alliance Coordinator Based In Niger

Save The Children, Nutrition and Food Security Alliance Coordinator Based In Niger
Save the Children is the world's leading independent organisation for children. We work in 120 countries. We save children's lives; we fight for their rights; we help them fulfil their potential.

We work together, with our partners, to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

We have over two million supporters worldwide and raised 1.9 billion dollars last year to reach more children than ever before, through programmes in health, nutrition, education, protection and child rights, also in times of humanitarian crises.

Following a major transition, our international programmes are now delivered through a merged operation with c15,000 staff, managed through seven regional hubs and reporting to a relatively small, central office. We're changing to become more efficient, more aligned, a better partner, a stronger advocate, a magnet for world-class people and relevant for the 21st century.

Contract length: 10 months
The role
Save the Children is an international NGO which main objective is to fight for children's rights around the world, in order to ensure immediate and sustainable development in their every day's lives.

Save the Children activities are deployed in 4 regions of Niger, with 400 employees and approximately US$ 30 million expenditures incurred each year for health programs, nutrition, child protection, education, food security and livelihoods, water and sanitation.

ECHO's 2017 West Africa Humanitarian Implementation Plan (HIP) includes for Niger about 30,000,000 euro of support for the treatment of acute malnutrition and the prevention of malnutrition through risk reduction and resilience strengthening. ECHO programming focuses on annual funding for about a dozen humanitarian response organizations. The success of the HIP depends on a coordinated multiannual strategy. Therefore, ECHO supports the Alliance for Nutrition and Food Security (the Alliance) to facilitate collaboration among their partners: Action Against Hunger, Alliance for International Medical Action, Concern, COOPI, GOAL, HELP, International Rescue Committee, Medecins du Monde, Oxfam Novib, Save the Children, SOS Sahel, and UN agencies such as World Food Programme and UNICEF.

To date, the strategic and operational collaboration between the principal non-state humanitarian actors of Niger has enabled the exchange of experience, learning about better practices, development of common tools, and coordinated engagement with government.

The Alliance Coordinator is responsible for facilitating collaboration among Alliance members to maximize collective impact on the treatment and prevention of malnutrition in Niger. Though an employee of Save the Children, the Alliance Coordinator serves the ensemble of organizations brought together under the tent of the Alliance as a shared resource and is accountable to the Group of Alliance Country Directors.
