Mali Emergency Information & Communications Officer

The Information &
Communications Officer is responsible for meeting the information and
communication needs of the Emergency Management Team and the wider
Alliance. The function will ensure the collection, analysis, approval
and dissemination of critical information and communication products.
The function will ensure compliance with Alliance guidelines and
protocols. The function will account for the information and
communications needs of all Alliance members, rather than just those of
the lead member. This post is for three months.
Responsibilities • Produce the situation reports about the response as directed. • Produce and distribute timely, accurate and accessible information outputs on Save the Children’s emergency response – these could include case studies, photos, cost examples, fact sheets/briefings and diaries – to agreed templates. • Liaise closely with photography/video teams in lead agency to ensure coordination of activities on the ground and that photos and videos are captured, proper release forms are signed, log lists and captions are recorded, and assets are sent electronically to lead agency for editing and distribution to Alliance member agencies. • Act as a point of contact for information provision on the emergency for other departments/Alliance members including media, emergencies, marketing and advocacy & policy teams. • Identify and maximize opportunities to raise the visibility and profile of Save the Children’s response both in country and internationally. • Identify ways in which the communications capacity of the team could be strengthened during the life cycle of the emergency response, possibly through training /mentoring. • Ensure protection of Save the Children Alliance brand and that all procedures, protocols and policies are followed, including guidelines. for interviewing children and documenting permission for use of digital images. Requirements • At least a years experience working on communications in an emergency response with a large NGO. • Fluency in French and English and computer literate. • Proven ability to identify good story ideas. • Strong communications planning skills – understanding how to plan and implement strategy. • Experience in managing large amounts of information, and to be able to triangulate information quickly. • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and experience writing communications outputs: situation reports, case studies, fact sheets/briefings and diaries. • Ability to work effectively and calmly in a high-pressure environment and to prioritize and effectively manage assignments in a timely fashion. • Basic photographic skills. • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
