Chemonics seeks a short-term project engineer for the ongoing USAID/OTI-funded Haiti Recovery Initiative II in Cap-Haitien and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The project engineer will assist in the supervision and oversight of a wide range of small-scale and large-scale infrastructure projects. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include: * Design and implement infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation of infrastructure, road rehabilitation, community infrastructure for urban renewal, markets, and water points * Work with development and implementation teams to review construction specifications and plans * Write technical scopes of work and review proposals * Provide input and oversight of construction subcontracts * Ensure overall quality and adherence to standards of construction projects
Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering required; experience in construction management preferred * Five years of progressively responsible work experience in construction management and supervision of new projects or complex rehabilitation projects * Experience with a USAID or donor-funded projects preferred * Experience with complex field operations in unstable developing countries preferred * Experience working in Haiti or similar environments and on rapid transition programs in insecure environments preferred * Knowledge and experience working with AutoCAD and scheduling software preferred * Experience using mobile GPS units to locate activity intervention areas * Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for prolonged periods * Good oral communication and writing skills required; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage diverse professional relationships essential * Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity * English fluency required; French, Haitian Creole, or Spanish proficiency preferred
