RTI is now recruiting candidates for a post in Haiti to lead and manage an anticipated project in support of reading education, in-service teacher training and reading research at the primary level, lasting 2.5-3 years.
The Senior Reading Education and Teacher Training Specialist will provide leadership in the design and implementation of reading education program for teachers of elementary school. Leadership will be required in the review and revision of the reading program, material development and strategies for community involvement. S/he will support the implementation of a large complex program of in-service teacher training. This will require organizing, managing and supporting technical teams and external technical assistance. Collaborations with government and other stakeholders will be critical to success and involve capacity-building for local staff and government counterparts.
Essential Job Functions • Provide technical leadership and quality assurance in the design, implementation and evaluation of a reading education program • Provide technical leadership on research on reading results and adaptive program design based on that research • Oversee technical staff and education specialists in all technical areas • Collaborate with subcontractor responsible for technical activities such as coaching and community mobilization, to assure a high level of performance and integration with the project • Collaborate with the Haitian Ministry of Education and non-ministry stakeholders to aid in the process of reading program and assessment design and implementation • Build partnerships with education institutions that can contribute to the creation and delivery of teacher professional development
• Manage technical aspects and implementation of professional development programs that leads teachers to achieve high levels of competency
Qualifications • Six years of experience in educational development • A Master’s or higher degree in education or a related field • Experience working with NGOs and on donor-funded programs • Primary school education experience in Haiti, including knowledge of reading instruction and bilingual education • Experience designing programs based on assessment • Experience managing large teacher training programs • Experience working collaboratively with ministry counterparts • Fluency in French required, fluency in English or Creole highly desirable • ***Local candidate from Haiti is preferred
