Institute of Crisis Management Studies Introduction:
The Institute of Crisis Management Studies is a newly established centre for academia focusing on management of crises, those occurring both as a result of human activity and natural causes. It offers a unique, multidisciplinary Master of Arts in Crisis Management, providing the very best national and international scholars, practitioners and experts currently engaged in the diverse areas pertaining to crisis. The ICMS also offers trainings, simulation exercises and field visits, not only as part of the curriculum but as practical exercises for a range of different governmental and non-governmental organizations and initiatives.
The specialised nature of the ICMS extends to its purpose-built grounds, computer facilities, and online learning experiences to inspire students to forward themselves and the subject. Our dedication to producing crisis managers means a commitment to undertaking and facilitating the very newest research in the subject and providing a forum for policy dialogues and symposiums into current issues relating to crisis. Responsibilities: The Samarpan Academy Institute of Crisis Management Studies (ICMS) is looking for a faculty member to teach its "Multidisciplinary Research Methods and Academic Writing" module for a two/three month period commencing on October 30th 2014. Multidisciplinary Research Methods and Academic Writing focuses on the design of social research and will help students navigate the difficult task of linking often abstract theoretical and methodological perspectives with practical research strategies. The module concentrates on the key issues that researchers need to recognize, confront and resolve in the design of social research. Students explore a range of contemporary research strategies, techniques, methodologies and practices necessary to develop an independent research paper throughout the entire program. Coupled with the academic writing aspect to the course- focusing on how to argue effectively and present ideas clearly and concisely in the writing up of data and literature review- the module encompasses a highly interactive and fundamental program for the M.A in Crisis Management on the whole.
The following Units make up the module: Introduction (6 hrs)- Meaning and Definition, The Language of Research, Ethics in Research, Conceptualizing, Concept Mapping, Evaluation Research, Behavioral Research: Research Designs (8 hrs)- Fundamental Features, Strengths and Limitations of Exploratory Research, Descriptive, Explanatory, Experimental and Semi-Experimental, Cross Sectional, Historical/Longitudinal, Comparative Research Designs, Conceptualizing the Research Designs, Methodology for Research: Academic Writing (16 hrs)- Plagiarism, APA 6 Referencing, Paraphrasing, Note Making, Evaluating Texts, Combining Sources, Summarizing, Paragraph Cohesion and Coherence, Arguing, Restatement and Repetition, Proposal Writing.
Required Qualifications and Experience;
A PhD in a related field; PhD candidates or Master's graduates in a related subject with experience and publication history are also encouraged to apply.
Remuneration: Lodging, food, and local transportation allowance for the duration of the three-month period. Start Date: 30th Oct, 2014. Please note we do not provide transport to or from Nepal or visa costs.
