Save the Children Australia operate in Australia delivering domestic programs and in the Pacific region including Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Timor Leste. We also support programs in Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somali, Sudan, Pakistan and Indonesia.

About the role You will ensure the successful implementation of the Save the Children Vanuatu’s Child Protection Program and the delivery of planned outcomes in line with the Government of Vanuatu’s child protection priorities and the Save the Children Strategy. With an understanding of community based child protection systems, the relationship between Kastom and formal justice systems, child and family violence and a demonstrated capacity to drive program and advocacy objectives, this role will operate and influence at community, provincial, and national levels. The Child Protection Manager will lead and manage Vanuatu’s Child Protection Program team, hold a position on the senior management team, report to the Country Director and be accountable for the following core activities: • Using strong Child Protection Program management methodologies to achieve best practice standards. • Providing technical support and capacity building in the management, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Child Protection Programs. • Ensuring Child Protection risk management/safeguarding strategies are implemented and monitored throughout all existing and new programs. • Coordinate the design and development of a Child Protection advocacy strategy.
• Work in partnership with national ministries and other key stakeholders providing Child Protection guidance, management and capacity building of local staff, partners and government stakeholders to achieve shared strategic objectives. • Lead and manage a team, operating in complex and challenging environments. • Ensuring Child Protection programming and policy is integrated across all Save the Children Vanuatu programs including Health, Education, Youth and Disaster Preparedness and Response.

Selection Criteria • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline. • Qualifications in Project Management or similar. • Demonstrated ability to project manage complex and inter-connected projects with restricted capacity, on time and within budget. • Demonstrated ability to provide accurate and timely advice on Child Protection matters. • Confidence in relationship building, influencing and well developed interpersonal skills. • Proven Child Protection program design, implementation and monitoring experience in a developing country context. • Demonstrated experience in the application of Child Protection and Child Rights programming and rights based approaches to development. • Sound knowledge of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and Child Protection legislation. • Bislama language abilities, desirable.
