Bachelors Degree/Masters Degree Preferred
5 years experience in artistic or educational organization
Able to Travel (within Indonesia)
Fluency in English and B. Indonesian
About The Organization
Yayasan Hidung Merahis an arts and education outreach program based in
Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta. Our mission is to empower Indonesia’s
underprivileged youth through the use of circus and other arts, as well as to
support the kids’ traditional and non-traditional educations.
Hidung Merah currently runs two arts and education programs in various areas of
Jakarta, offering educational support to over 100 at risk youth and young
adults. Our main program, in Cilincing, offers training in circus arts and
supports their educational development. Children are counseled and mentored
based on their needs and assisted to the greatest extent possible with
education, e.g. enrollment, full or partial payment of fees, private tutoring,
homework help and intervention when there are problems at school and home.
Moreover, Hidung Merah offers basic literacy, English language, Math and guitar
lessons. In Cilincing this support is offered from a purpose built Arts and
Education center.
Job Description
Artistic Director is responsible for conceiving, developing and implementing
programsthat support and further the mission statement and focus of the
organization in correspondence with the Education Director.S/he is also
responsible making for major decisions about the ongoing development of the
aesthetic values and activities, after extensive consultation with the Executive
Director. S/he will participate in all YHM activities as director, performer,
teacher, promoter or producer.
Artistic Director will be versed at utilizing leadership, communication and
problem-solving skills. S/He will have a university degree in theater
education/management or equivalent experience and provide work and personal
references. S/he will speak English and Indonesian fluently.
Duties
Administrative
· Motivate and inspire staff, students and volunteers to implement and
conduct the organization’s mission with precision
· Develop new artistic outreach programs and oversee all artistic output
of the facility
· Develop, implement, evaluate and report arts outreach programs and
teaching curriculum.
· Assist in hiring all teaching and creative staff and assume any
responsibility necessary in the absence of others. Also, if necessary assume
directing responsibilities, direct productions, and step in for directors in the
event of emergencies
Teaching and Performing
· Oversee and maintain the highest quality of all artistic output of the
organization, in specific outreach classes and public performances
· Assist in development, direction and production of all creative works
put forth by the organization and its students.
· Able to learn and perform new skills including circus arts and
physical comedy.
· Recruit guest artists and guest teachers and assist them in producing
workshops and other special event opportunities for students and staff.
Fundraising
· Serve as the faces of the organization via speaking engagements,
public and social appearances, and, as requested, at fundraising events and
solicitations.
· Work with Executive Director to form and maintain program budgets
· Assist the Executive Director to develop and implement artistic grant
proposals
· Fosters the development of good relations with other social and
cultural organizations
· Be actively involved in the fundraising activities of the
organization. This includes work on fundraising campaigns and event, as well as
participating in fundraising calls to individuals, foundations, and corporations
to develop and sustain the organizations fundraising catalog.
