Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) is an ecumenical association of church-owned health facilities and training colleges in Malawi. CHAM is committed to providing administrative and technical support to member health facilities that provide holistic, quality, affordable, and accessible gender-sensitive health services that have preferential treatment for the poor.CHAM’s associated health facilities and training colleges located throughout the country provide about 37% of health care and train up to 80% of health workers in Malawi. CHAM health facilities are predominantly located in rural areas where they promote equity in access to health care. CHAM is a key partner to the Government of Malawi through the Ministry of Health in implementing the Health Sector Strategic Plan, including delivery of the Essential Health Package and training of human resources for health, and in other sector-wide initiatives.
Position Overview
The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer will strengthen program monitoring and ensure reporting of key CHAM health service delivery indicators is done in accordance with agreed standards and sectorial best practices. The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer will be responsible for facilitating a full range of Monitoring and Evaluation activities, including project proposal design, report writing, database management, and staff capacity building.Responsibilities
- Facilitate monitoring and evaluation activities, including planning and implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities, reports writing, etc.
- Give technical and methodological support to the staff on monitoring and evaluation methods, log frame approach, quality assurance, use of software, etc.
- Participate in project proposals design, primarily log frame and monitoring and evaluation components
- Maintain contacts with other agencies equipped with field based monitoring and evaluation systems and GIS units
- Monitor implementation and impact of church-owned health facility programs supported by CHAM
- Facilitate research and documentation of good practices
- Manage a database with indicators for national response and prepare regular reports on overall performance
- Develop formats and time schedules for indicator monitoring reports
- Assist with the development of national policy and guidelines for monitoring and evaluation and its impact
Desired Skills and Experience
Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required- Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, epidemiology, or related field*
- Two years of experience in monitoring and evaluation
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation of health including HIV-related and primary health care programs
- Experience working with international cooperating partners
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Knowledge of health management information systems
- Ability to develop monitoring and evaluation systems and guidelines for staff training
- Self-starter, strategic thinker, analytical, and creative
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Reliability in meeting deadlines
- Good team worker with excellent interpersonal, methodical, and presentation skills
Fellowship Logistics
During the fellowship year, all fellows are provided with:- A living stipend of $650/month
- Housing and utilities
- Health insurance
- A professional development grant of $600
- An award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year
- Travel costs covered to and from placement site, training and retreats
Living and Working in Malawi: Fellows are provided with basic housing and a utilities stipend during the fellowship year. GHC coordinates housing for fellows in shared apartments or houses that meet GHC's safety standards. Fellows at CHAM will be housed in Lilongwe, an urban city and capital of Malawi. National fellows have the option to remain in their own housing and receive a supplemental housing stipend.
