Purpose of the Position
Under the supervision and guidance of both supervisors, the research assistant supports the Nutrition and HIV/AIDS sections by providing a range of procedural, administrative, and operational support to the technical teams in developing, implementing, executing and monitoring their respective programmes, to facilitate effective and timely delivery that is consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations.
Major Responsibilities
1. Support to programme development, planning and execution.
Research, analyze, verify, synthesize and compile qualitative and quantitative data and information from a variety of sources on subject matters relevant to the work of both Nutrition and HIV/AIDS sections to facilitate preparation of reports, working papers, and presentations.
Draft project documents, work plans, budgets, proposals on implementation arrangements.
Carry out transactions in VISION ensuring programme results, activities and programme coding are as per annual work plans (AWPs), and makes amendments and alterations as per both sections revisions when necessary.
Monitor and track the efficient distribution of supplies that are required for effective programme delivery.
2. Support to monitoring and reporting of programme results
Prepare monitoring and reporting information for supervisor on agreed performance indicators to drive more efficient management and accountability for results.
Monitor budgets and financial expenditures of Nutrition and HIV/AIDS section, ensuring compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations, keeping supervisor informed and advised on actions for decision/follow up.
Analyze data made available through different sources including but not limited to UNICEF Insights and other e-tools in supporting quality assurance monitoring of UNICEF country programme annual progress toward results.
Maintain updated data monitoring system and ready-to-use fact sheets of key indicators
3. Support in resource mobilization
Research, analyze, verify, and synthesize data and information in support of preparing reports pertaining to donors (both current and potential).
Research, analyze, verify, and synthesize data and information to assist in the preparation of periodic or ad-hoc financial reports relating to country office and donors to support the office in optimizing use of programme funds.
Carry out transactions in VISION pertaining to grants for Nutrition and HIV/AIDS section such as registering grant allotments and tracking expiring programme grants.
4. Support in Knowledge Management and capacity building
Research, analyze, verify and synthesize information on best practices and lessons learnt to support knowledge development and capacity building
Support capacity development activities related to performance monitoring, programme development, and related internal UNICEF systems/tools by preparing training materials and participating on exercises pertaining to program processes and procedures which aim to build capacity of stakeholders.
Through research, build a repository of subject matter information, including articles, presentations, guidance/concept notes, reports, and documents. Assist the team of technical staff to scan, filter and synthesize information on regional/global trends and capture experiential knowledge. Assist in disseminating such info for the knowledge of nutrition and HIV staff across the region and supports programming and advocacy activities.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization. University degree in business administration and relevant social science field preferable.
Minimum 6 years of progressively responsible administrative or clerical work experience is required.
Experience in providing support on programme implementation and budget monitoring to non-profit organizations or UN agencies, desirable.
Strong skills in administrative and financial management.
Strong organizational skills to manage diverse assignments as well as basic statistics and statistical interpretation.
Strong skills in researching and research writing as well as processing of computer-generated data through knowledge of office procedure and systems.
Fluency in English and Thai (verbal and written).
Attention to details.
Good analytical, negotiation, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle and complete multiple tasks within deadlines.
Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Proven proficiency and good knowledge of computer applications, including data management related.
Tact, discretion, self-starter and good judgment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously in an international multicultural environment.
