Position Overview
The Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Officer will be based in Lilongwe and will work closely with Save the Children colleagues in the Health and Nutrition Department, both those based in Lilongwe and in the districts in which we work. The fellow will work under the direct supervision of the Senior MEAL Manager, working on a range of health and nutrition-related initiatives aimed at improving the organization’s ability to monitor, measure and evaluate its programs. These will include supporting the generation, quality, analysis and use of monitoring data; supporting project evaluations (e.g. baseline, midterm, endline surveys); supporting Data Quality Audits (DQAs); supporting the compilation and production of program-wide MEAL updates; supporting the strengthening of collaboration between MEAL staff in the Health and Nutrition Department, including biannual MEAL meetings; and supporting the design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of operations research studies.Responsibilities
- Contribute significantly to the strengthening of Save the Children’s health and nutrition program monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning processes
- Support Save the Children’s health and nutrition projects to generate, analyze, and use quality data, thereby contributing to more effective programming
- Support Save the Children to use robust health and nutrition program-based data in its internal learning and external advocacy work
Desired Skills and Experience

- Preferred: Master’s degree in public health or related field
- Proven experience of working in a monitoring and evaluation role in the public health or nutrition program of a national or international organization*
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective and collegiate team member*
- Demonstrated experience of working on evaluation (baseline, midterm, endline) of public health or nutrition programs
- Demonstrated experience of working on operations research specific to public health or nutrition
Fellowship Logistics
During the fellowship year, all fellows are provided with:- A living stipend of $650/month
- Housing and utilities
- Health insurance
- A professional development grant of $600
- An award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year
- Travel costs covered to and from placement site, training and retreats
Living and Working in Malawi: Fellows are provided with basic housing and a utilities stipend during the fellowship year. GHC coordinates housing for fellows in shared apartments or houses that meet GHC's safety standards. Fellows at Save the Children will be housed in Lilongwe, an urban city and capital of Malawi. National fellows have the option to remain in their own housing and receive a supplemental housing stipend.
