Position Description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Nurse will be directly responsible for the organization of nursing and midwifery service in the hospital, support supervision and guiding the staff. S/he will provide overall leadership to the nurses and midwives in the hospital. S/he will supervise and build clinical management capacity of the ward in charges and attend to the injured patients.



SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure round the clock availability of nursing and midwifery services in the hospital by implementing and supervising duty rosters
To organize, deploy and supervise nurses and midwives
To identify learning needs, organizing training sessions and on the job training
To support effective nurse – patient communication, recording and follow up of treatment
To support different mechanisms of data collection within the hospital
To examine the case sheet of every patient to complete admission formalities and judge clinical findings
To work in coordination with consultants and specialists and follows up the treatment of each patient
To provide feedback about other medical staff to the chief medical director
To ensure that staff strictly adhere to ethical code of conduct, maintain high standards of practice and consents prior to intervention to avoid medical litigation
Participate in daily rounds and case discussions to build the capacity of medical officers, clinical officers and nurses
Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps
Any other relevant duties as requested by project management of IMC Medical Director.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized Institution is required or an advanced diploma in nursing/midwifery in lieu of extensive experience in a similar position.
At least 3 years of experience in a busy clinical setting with skills in emergency medicine nursing and medical staff training.
At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory, managerial and leadership roles dealing with national staff
Demonstrated capacity in health systems strengthening and building capacity of national staff
Previous NGO experience in a resource limited setting
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Experience in effectively dealing with international and headquarters staff, as well as donor agencies, government officials, and other NGOs.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
Extremely flexible and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations


Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively
Creativity and the ability to work in limited resources
Excellent decision making skills
Must work independently under difficult conditions. Excellent communication skills both in oral and written English, Arabic language a plus

Preferred
Work experiences in South Sudan or regional experiences,
High level of communication and public relations skills
