Job from World Vision
Closing date: 23 Dec 2016
World Vision is an international Christians Humanitarian Organization working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation and seek justice. Our Cambodia Office is seeking a Consultant (national or international) to review and revise WVI’s Peace Road Curriculum for use in primary schools.
THE HISTORY AND PURPOSE
Peace Road Curriculum (PRC) is a major component of WVI-C’s new strategy for addressing life skills for primary-school aged children. The Peace Road Curriculum was developed in 2008 and endorsed by the MoEYS in 2009. Thus it is necessary now to change the PRC to make it more current and relevant. It is also required that the existing PRC be revised to be more compatible with the actual school calendar for primary school students. According to the MoEYS curriculum policy, teachers in primary school have a total of 80 minutes per week (1-2 40 minute sessions) to teach ‘local life skills’.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Interview staff and end-users of the PRC about their experience to date with using the materials.
Bring the curriculum content up to date, with a focus on children in gr. 5-6.
Modify the PRC to make it suitable for use in schools as part of the Local Life Skills in the regular curriculum (eg. revise content, simplify, reduce total length, alter the length of individual chapters, adjust activities, etc.);
Advise on how/if the PRC might be used throughout primary school grades.
Advise on standardised IEC materials to accompany the textbook.
Review and advise on what set of life skills (cognitive and non-cognitive) is most appropriate to target for children in primary school, and especially in gr. 5-6.
III. REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of a BA degree in an education-related subject; a Master’s degree is preferred.
A least 5 years experience in curriculum development.
Experience in planning and conducting trainings for Cambodians.
Experience with conducting research relating to child-rights issues in Cambodia.
Familiarity with WVI-C’s Peace Road Curriculum.
Knowledge of the sector of ‘life skills’, especially as it relates to children ages 6-12 years.
At least 5 years experience in the field of child rights and child protection in Cambodia.
Knowledge of the policy environment surrounding child protection.
Highly developed interpersonal skills.
Willing to travel to the remote areas for interviews and observation (if required).
Duration: The duration of the consultancy service is a maximum of 22 Working Days. Work must commence in January, 2016 and be completed by 30 March, 2016. Payment will only be rendered upon completion of the entire consultancy.
How to apply:
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter (including statement of their daily service fee and expectations of any additional payments, as well as stating the anticipated number of days it will take to complete the work, and an indicative schedule for completing the work), and a current CV. International candidates must also submit a copy of a valid Cambodia visa. All documents should be submitted in soft-copy to: HR Department, World Vision International by email to: cam_recruitment@wvi.org.
DO NOT SEND PHOTOCOPIES OF training certificates. Bring them along if you are called for further interviews.
World Vision International is committed to the principles of workplace diversity. Qualified women and people with disability are encouraged to apply. Only short listed candidates will be notified. Applications & CVs will not be returned.
WVI is committed to the protection of children. We do not employ staff whose background is not aligned to our child protection practices. Hence employment is conditional upon successful completion of all applicable background checks, including criminal record checks where possible.
Successful candidate will require submitting of POLICE CHECK to World Vision.
