Value Chain Portfolio Lead, Mozambique

We are currently seeking a senior-level manager and technical expert for an upcoming multi-year Feed the Future (FtF) USAID-funded program in Mozambique. This project will increase the productivity and competitiveness of Mozambique’s agribusiness sector through the development of competitive selected agricultural value chains and to improve the nutritional status of pregnant and lactating women and children less than five years of age by strengthening the linkages between the agriculture, nutrition, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Anticipated activities include promoting the use of improved agricultural technologies and inputs, improving access to agricultural finance, strengthening public-private partnerships and building the capacity of local organizations and business development service providers. The Value Chain Portfolio Lead will direct interventions focused on scaling up production methods and establishing market linkages which increase the output and competitiveness of selected value chains. The position is subject to project award.

Responsibilities:
Promote the use of improved technology for increased production of target crops to reduce food security vulnerability
Empower Farmer’s Organizations effectively to advocate for the needs of their representatives
Lead the development and implementation of value chain interventions that increase the profitability of agribusinesses in the selected sectors
Establish market linkages and improve access to services and technologies by creating partnerships between established businesses and emerging farmers
Coordinate with project staff to integrate cross-cutting objectives focused on alleviating gender gaps, building local capacity, and utilizing ICT tools
Supervise and provide technical leadership to a large team of technical specialists
Contribute to work planning and implementation oversight as part of the senior management team

Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Economics, Business, International Development or another relevant subject area
At least 10 years of progressive experience designing and implementing value chain interventions
Experience working in the region and with the target value chains (soybean, sesame, groundnuts, common bean, cow pea, pigeon pea, banana) is strongly preferred
At least five years of relevant work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa or a similar development context.
Demonstrated familiarity with USAID policies and procedures
Professional fluency in English written and spoken required.
Portuguese fluency or proficiency preferred. Knowledge of Spanish or related language considered a plus as well.
